Inside the Aesthetic Mind: Dr. Fatima Aguero on Versatility, Prejuvenation & Emotional Aesthetic Care
In this edition of Inside the Aesthetic Mind, we sit down with Dr. Fatima Aguero, an accomplished dermatologist known for her results-driven, ethical, and deeply personal approach to patient care. From post-burn scar transformations to prejuvenation philosophy, Dr. Aguero brings science and compassion together in every consultation.
Here’s what she had to say.
What’s your go-to Alma platform, and why?
“Although I love the CO2 laser, my go-to is definitely the Alma Harmony. It’s incredibly versatile. I use it for everything—from onychomycosis and vitiligo to acne, scars, rejuvenation, even drug delivery. Almost everything you see in practice, Harmony can help address.”
What’s a common myth about aesthetic treatments that you’d like to debunk?
“That once you start treatments, you’re stuck doing them forever—or worse, you’ll end up looking worse if you stop. That’s completely false.”
Dr. Aguero believes in the power of prevention, emphasizing what she calls “prejuvenation”—addressing aging before it becomes deeply etched in the skin.
“It’s like going to the gym. If you stop for a while, sure, you might notice a difference. But you’ll still be in better shape than if you had never gone at all. Same with skin. Taking care of it consistently will always leave you better off in the long run.”
Can you tell us about a patient success story that’s stayed with you?
“I’ve had several—but what touches me most is working with patients who have facial scars from trauma or burns.”
She shares the story of three patients in particular—individuals who once believed they would never show their faces without makeup again.
“We worked together over several sessions, and little by little, their skin changed—but more importantly, so did their confidence. Today, they leave their homes with clear faces, no makeup, and smiles. That’s what stays with you. Their joy is the greatest reward.”
What’s your best piece of advice for fellow aesthetic practitioners?
“Never stop learning. Study, read, train. Be excellent at what you do. And never sacrifice ethics for trends or profit.”
For Dr. Aguero, continuous education is only one part of the formula. The other? Staying grounded in patient-first values.
“Success comes when you combine science, empathy, and integrity. That’s what builds lasting trust—and lasting impact.”
What inspired you to pursue a career in medical aesthetics?
“The ability to help people feel better about themselves. That’s the real power of aesthetics.”
To her, aesthetics isn’t just skin-deep—it’s about giving people the tools to project who they truly are, confidently.
“We’re not chasing perfection. We’re helping patients feel like the best version of themselves.”
Is there a personal philosophy you follow in your daily practice?
“Enhance, improve—don’t transform.”
She believes aesthetic treatments should respect a patient’s individuality. Subtle, confident results always win over exaggerated change.
“The best compliment a patient can receive is: ‘You look amazing,’ not, ‘What did you have done?’”
And finally, how do you see the future of aesthetic medicine evolving?
“We’re moving toward precision. I believe we’ll soon be able to target very specific skin pathways—activate or inhibit them—based on someone’s unique biology.”
She envisions a future where personalization goes even deeper, merging dermatology, molecular science, and technology.
“But even as technology advances, the human eye and clinical judgment will remain just as important. We must always combine innovation with intuition.”
Dr. Fatima Aguero reminds us that true aesthetic care is never just about procedures. It’s about people, purpose, and the quiet power of being seen.
